Wrocław — June 25–26
June 25 Arrival & the Old Town Wrocław
  • Arrival day: Arrive, check in and get oriented near the Old Town
  • Afternoon: Explore the Market Square (Rynek) — one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, lined with colorful Gothic townhouses
  • Late afternoon: Search for the Wrocław Dwarfs (krasnale) — 400+ bronze figurines hidden around the city, each with its own personality and story
  • Evening: Dinner in the Market Square area — try żurek (sour rye soup) and pierogi at one of the cellar restaurants
The Market Square is especially magical after dark — the Gothic Town Hall is beautifully lit and the restaurants around the square come alive with music and locals.
June 26 Museums, Islands & Departure Prep Wrocław
  • Morning: Visit Hydropolis — a spectacular interactive water museum inside a historic 19th-century water treatment reservoir
  • Late morning: Stroll Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski) — the oldest part of the city, full of Gothic spires and the scent of incense. Watch the lamplighter light the gas lamps at dusk
  • Afternoon: Szczytnicki Park and the Japanese Garden — a peaceful escape, especially beautiful in summer
  • Evening: Early night — train to Prague departs tomorrow morning
Book Hydropolis tickets in advance — it sells out on weekends. The Japanese Garden in Szczytnicki Park is one of the most authentic outside Japan and is free to enter.
Prague — June 27–29
June 27 Wrocław → Prague & Old Town Arrival Prague
  • 🚂Morning: Ex 32 EuroCity direct train — Wrocław Główny → Prague hlavní nádraží in approximately 4 hours. Up to 4 direct trains daily — book early via intercity.pl or cd.cz
  • Afternoon: Check in, then walk to Old Town Square — absorb the medieval panorama of Gothic spires, Baroque facades, and the Jan Hus monument. Wait for the Astronomical Clock to strike the hour — built in 1410, it's the oldest still in operation
  • Late afternoon: Cross Charles Bridge toward sunset — flanked by 30 Baroque saint statues and framing magnificent views of Prague Castle
  • Evening: Dinner in Malá Strana (Lesser Town) — less touristy and more atmospheric than Old Town. Try svíčková (braised beef with cream sauce) or duck with red cabbage
Book the Wrocław → Prague train well in advance — the Ex 32 EuroCity is popular. Morning departures give a full afternoon in Prague on arrival. Stay in Malá Strana or Vinohrady for a more local feel at lower prices than Old Town.
June 28 Prague Castle, Infant Jesus & Petřín Hill Prague
  • Morning: Prague Castle complex — the largest ancient castle in the world. Buy the combined ticket for St. Vitus Cathedral (Gothic masterpiece; stunning Alfons Mucha stained glass), the Old Royal Palace, and Golden Lane (tiny colored houses; Franz Kafka lived at No. 22). Allow 3–4 hours
  • A special stop: Church of Our Lady Victorious in Malá Strana — home to the Infant Jesus of Prague, a 16th-century wax statue venerated worldwide. Free entry; deeply peaceful. Masses daily
  • Afternoon: Climb Petřín Hill — take the funicular up (or hike through the park) to the Petřín Lookout Tower. Panoramic views of Prague at sunset are unforgettable
  • Evening: Stroll back across Charles Bridge at dusk — castle floodlit gold above the river, a completely different atmosphere to daytime
St. Vitus Cathedral offers free entry to the nave — tickets only needed for the side chapels, crypt, and tower. Sunday Mass at 10 AM is open to all. The Infant Jesus church is a 10-minute walk down the hill from the castle.
June 29 Josefov, Powder Tower & Prague → Wrocław Prague
  • Morning: Josefov (Jewish Quarter) — one of the best-preserved historic Jewish quarters in Europe. The combined ticket covers six synagogues including the Old Jewish Cemetery, where graves are stacked 12 layers deep. Pinkas Synagogue walls are inscribed with 80,000 Czech Jewish Holocaust victims' names
  • Late morning: Gothic Powder Tower and the ornate Art Nouveau Municipal House (Smetana Hall) — free to view the exterior, café inside
  • 🚂Afternoon: Ex 32 EuroCity direct train back to Wrocław (~4 hrs). Arrive Wrocław evening — settled in for the graduation stretch
The Jewish Quarter is closed on Saturdays. If June 29 falls on a Saturday, visit on Day 2 instead. Check jewishmuseum.cz for hours. Multiple afternoon train departures back to Wrocław — no need to rush.
Carole & Jim — Nuremberg Option

If Carole and Jim wish to visit Tristan in Nuremberg, the Prague leg is the natural departure point. From Prague on June 29 or 30, they can take a FlixBus direct to Nuremberg (~3h 35m, from Praha Florenc, from €18) or the train via Schwandorf (~4h 30m, from €12). They can then rejoin the group in Wrocław for the graduation on July 3rd, or fly/train directly to Kraków later to meet the group there.

Wrocław — June 30 – July 4
June 30 Prague → Wrocław & Settle In Wrocław
  • 🚂Afternoon arrival: Back in Wrocław after Prague — settle in, relax, catch up with Jan's family
  • Evening: Quiet dinner and rest — graduation preparations ahead
A low-key return day — three big days of sightseeing deserve a rest before the graduation week.
July 01–02 Free Days in Wrocław Wrocław
  • Rest & explore: Two relaxed days based in Wrocław — revisit favorite spots or discover new corners of the city
  • Suggestions: Panorama of the Battle of Racławice (huge 19th-century cyclorama painting), National Museum, street art in the Nadodrze district, boat trip on the Odra, or the zoo in Szczytnicki Park
  • Day trip option: Książ Castle (~60 km southwest) — one of the largest castles in Poland, dramatically sited above the Pełcznica Valley. Train from Wrocław to Wałbrzych, then bus or taxi
  • NFM Wrocław: Check the National Forum of Music summer concert schedule for early July performances — nfm.wroclaw.pl
Wrocław rewards slow wandering. The evening Market Square with a cold beer and street performers is one of the great simple pleasures of Central Europe.
July 03 🎓 Graduation Day — Wrocław Wrocław
  • 🎓The big day! Graduation ceremony in Wrocław — the whole reason for the trip. Family gathers to celebrate
  • Evening: Celebration dinner — Wrocław's Old Town has wonderful restaurants for a special occasion
Wrocław's Market Square restaurants and riverside bars make for a wonderful graduation evening. Book a restaurant in advance for a group this size.
July 04 🏠 Day Trip to Oława — Family Visit Oława
  • 🚂Morning: Regional train from Wrocław Główny → Oława (~25–30 min). Trains run frequently throughout the day — no advance booking needed
  • 🏠Day: Visit Jan's sister and brother-in-law at their home in Oława — a personal and special time with family in their own setting
  • Oława town: A charming historic market town on the Odra River with a lovely medieval square — worth a short stroll between the visit and the station
  • 🚂Evening: Return to Wrocław by late regional train — trains run until around 11 PM
Oława is one of the most pleasant small towns in Lower Silesia. The Wratislavia Cantans festival (Sept 3–13) also holds concerts in Oława — worth knowing if you ever return in September!
Kraków — July 5–7
July 05 Wrocław → Kraków & Main Square Kraków
  • 🚂Morning: Direct train Wrocław Główny → Kraków Główny — EC ODRA, ~2h 45m. Book in advance at intercity.pl for best prices
  • Afternoon: Arrive, check in near the Old Town, then walk the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) — one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, ringed by Gothic and Baroque architecture. Visit the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) and browse amber jewelry stalls
  • Late afternoon: St. Mary's Basilica — hear the Hejnał trumpet call from the tower and see the stunning Gothic altarpiece by Veit Stoss, one of the greatest medieval woodcarvings in the world
  • Evening: Dinner at Staropolska Karczma (ul. Sienna 4) — a beloved Kraków cellar restaurant just off the Market Square. Hearty Polish classics: bigos, pierogi, żurek in a bread bowl, roast duck. Book ahead.
The Hejnał trumpet call cuts off mid-phrase every hour — commemorating a 13th-century trumpeter shot by a Tatar arrow while warning the city. A uniquely Kraków moment. Staropolska Karczma is a 5-minute walk from the Basilica.
July 06 Wieliczka Salt Mine, Divine Mercy & Pod Wawelem Kraków
  • Morning: Wieliczka Salt Mine (~15 km from Kraków, 2.5–3.5 hrs underground) — a UNESCO World Heritage site with underground chapels, lakes, and sculptures carved entirely from salt. Minibuses run every 20–30 min from near the main bus station. Book tickets in advance at wieliczka-saltmine.com
  • Afternoon — Divine Mercy Sanctuary (Łagiewniki): One of the most important Catholic shrines in the world — the Basilica where St. Faustina Kowalska received her visions of the Merciful Jesus. Her relics rest in the chapel, her cell can be visited. Arrive by 2:30 PM to visit before the Hour of Mercy at 3:00 PM — join pilgrims from around the world for the chaplet prayer before the miraculous image. Take tram 8 or 13 from the Old Town (~30 min)
  • Evening: Dinner at Pod Wawelem Kompania Kuflowa (ul. Świętej Gertrudy 26/29) — legendary Kraków beer hall with enormous portions, live folk music, and a wonderfully rowdy atmosphere. Reserve: +48 12 421 23 36
The Hour of Mercy (3 PM) is the spiritual highlight of the Divine Mercy Sanctuary — arrive early to settle in and pray before the crowds gather. St. Faustina's simple convent cell and the museum of her life are deeply moving. Pod Wawelem is the perfect joyful contrast in the evening.
July 07 Kraków Morning → Sopot Kraków / Sopot
  • Morning: A free morning in Kraków — stroll Kazimierz (the former Jewish quarter, now a bohemian neighborhood of galleries, cafés and street art), walk the Vistula Riverbank past the Wawel Dragon, or simply enjoy a final coffee in the Market Square
  • 🚂Afternoon: Train from Kraków → Sopot via the IC Baltic Express (~4.5 hrs). Arrive Sopot early evening — check in and take a first walk along the famous pier at sunset
  • Evening: Dinner on Monte Cassino Street (ul. Bohaterów Monte Cassino) — Sopot's lively pedestrian strip lined with restaurants, bars, and street life
Book the Kraków → Sopot train in advance at intercity.pl — the IC Baltic Express is popular in July. Sopot's famous pier (Molo) is the longest wooden pier in Europe at 511 meters — a magical first-evening walk.
Sopot & Gdańsk — July 7–10
July 08 Sopot Beach, Pier & Forest Opera Sopot
  • Morning: Sopot beach — one of the finest Baltic beaches, wide sandy shore with calm waters. The beach stretches for miles in both directions from the pier
  • Midday: Walk the full length of Sopot Pier (Molo) — 511 meters of wooden boardwalk over the Baltic, with views back to the forested Sopot hills and the Gdańsk skyline
  • Afternoon: Explore Monte Cassino Street and the charming old town of Sopot — boutiques, amber shops, cafés and the famous Crooked House (Krzywy Domek)
  • 🎵Evening option: Forest Opera (Opera Leśna) — an extraordinary open-air concert venue set in the forest. Check the July 2026 program for classical, opera, or special performances. operalesna.pl
The Forest Opera is one of Poland's most magical venues — a natural amphitheater seating 5,000 under the stars and forest canopy. Book ahead if anything is scheduled during your stay.
July 09 Gdańsk — Old Town & Solidarity Gdańsk
  • 🚂Morning: Short train from Sopot → Gdańsk (~11 min, trains every few minutes). Start at the magnificent Long Market (Długi Targ) — the grand ceremonial street of the Hanseatic city, lined with elaborate merchant houses and the Neptune Fountain
  • Midday: St. Mary's Basilica — one of the world's largest brick churches. Climb the tower (405 steps) for panoramic Baltic views. Browse Mariacka Street for amber jewelry
  • Afternoon: European Solidarity Centre and the Shipyard Monument — one of Europe's most important historical sites, telling the story of the Solidarity movement that helped end communism in Poland. Allow 2–3 hours — deeply moving and beautifully curated. ecs.gda.pl
  • Evening: Return to Sopot for dinner — the waterfront restaurants near the pier are perfect for a warm July evening
Book Solidarity Centre tickets online at ecs.gda.pl — it's one of Poland's finest museums and can be busy in summer. The Gdańsk waterfront (Motława River) at golden hour is stunning — allow time to just sit and watch the tall ships.
July 10 Museum of WWII, Baltic & Sopot → Wrocław Gdańsk / Wrocław
  • Morning: Museum of the Second World War, Gdańsk — one of the most comprehensive WWII museums in the world, opened in 2017. Allow 2–3 hours. Book online at muzeum1939.pl
  • Late morning: Final walk along the Baltic shore or a coffee on the pier before departing
  • 🚂Afternoon: IC Baltic Express from Sopot → Wrocław (~4h 30m). Arrive Wrocław evening
Book the Sopot → Wrocław return train at intercity.pl well in advance — July is peak Baltic season and trains fill up. Multiple afternoon departures available.
Wrocław — July 10–14 (Return)
July 11–13 Final Days in Wrocław Wrocław
  • Three relaxed days back in Wrocław — a wonderful city to end the journey in. Visit anything missed earlier, or simply enjoy the rhythm of the city
  • Suggestions: Panorama of the Battle of Racławice (massive 19th-century cyclorama), NFM concert, boat trip on the Odra, day trip to Książ Castle (~60 km), or the Nadodrze district for street art and local cafés
  • Farewell dinner: One last evening in the Market Square — the trip has come full circle
These final days in Wrocław are a gift — don't over-schedule them. Pack, rest, reminisce, and enjoy one of Central Europe's most charming cities at a leisurely pace.
July 14 ✈ Return Flight Home Wrocław
  • Departure day: Transfer to Wrocław Airport (Port Lotniczy Wrocław) — allow plenty of time. The airport is ~10 km from the city center, reachable by bus (line 106) or taxi (~20 min)
  • Until departure: Final coffee in the Old Town or a last stroll through the Market Square
